I am in zone 8 in Seattle. I was wondering when I should cut down my agapanthus. They're in the ground and last year I didn't cut them down and they got all brown and mushy – any advice is greatly appreciated!

I'm in Seattle in zone 8 and am wondering if I leave my Agapanthus out in the ground when is the best time to cut them to the ground – or should I not do that? Last year I didn't cut them down and the leaves wilted turned brown and into mush. Any help is greatly appreciated! Bree

I'm wondering how to handle my banana plant. I've had wonderful luck overwintering my agapanthus for years in my unheated garage. I'm in zone 5 Chicago. When I tried to do the same with the banana, it didn't work. So I bought a new plant and right before the first hard frost, cut it back and brought it into the garage. Any thoughts? Thank you!

Lovely, informative post!
How many rosemary are you wintering over? I became a little confused where you recommend cold & moist, and then dry, conditions. I hope to leave them outdoor s as long as possible, and maybe one in ground just because it is an expendable extra. Have numbers of them in client gardens that have survived in ground in the more tropical areas of this place, but I am in cold soil and shade at home, for the most part.
All best,
