I'll have to check that out. I do have strong opinions myself about seed saving, not about saving seeds as I do, but more about those promoting seed-saving who may not know about some facts. I (as I assume you do) save only seed which I know will either come true as a garden sourced seed or is of a wild plant (alpines, wild ephemerals), but many are simply saving seed willy nilly, either believing that they are doing something noble, or virtuous. I see more posts about random seed saving with a purpose, than actual seed collectors who are really knowledgable. I believe that this will all settle out eventually – as some seed savers educate themselves, learn more about what they are doing, and why they are doing it, and some may loose interest if it's a casual affair. Really, it's just education, and I hope that Mr. Kingsbury shares some insights as well as reasoning to those many who do save seeds. No one should ever discourage one from seed saving – but rather, educate either on their opinion. Maybe teach them, perhaps? I like Amy Goldman's books for that reason. I will admit that I am pretty select on what I save, bu that may be just time related. I only save seed from about a dozen species in my garden and greenhouse – those which are worth saving for one reason (mostly rarity) or another.
(Just hard to find in the trade). Then again, that doesn't include sweet peas which tend to come true. I may multiply my seed saving by lots of 10 next year!

noel kingsbury has just posted a blog piece that sounds very contemptuous re seed-saving, almost angry! whether this is warranted or not is not up to me, but it seems the know-how of seed-saving/seed-sowing might well become part of every ambitious gardener's skill set. these are some links for more info:
"The New Seed Starter's Handbook," Book by Nancy Bubel
"Growing Plants from Seed," Book by Doc and Katy Abraham
"Seed to Seed," Book by Suzanne Ashworth
"The Seed Garden," Book published by Seed Savers Exchange

I'll have to check into some of those books. There's always more to learn, which is one of the great things about gardening.
