Im so sorry for the late reply, but you are welcome. There is much to say about growing sweet peas, but I will admit that last years ours were terrible too. First, the high heat in June, then never ending rain in July. I suppose you never know. Let me know how you did this year?

Three years ago there wasn’t much in depth information on growing sweetpeas to be found and I wish I would have found your article sooner. My first year attempt was dismal but the few blooms that I did get got me hooked. I’ve had much success with the deep root trainers and will be planting twelve different varieties this year. Can’t wait to read your flower gardening book. Best Regards, Xia K.

My Gosh, they would be great. I have no idea how you could grow them in Alabama, but maybe only as a winter crop? You might need day-neutral or winter-flowering varieties, though. Sorry I cant be of more help!

She and her late grandmother had a love for butterflies so I am trying to grow these as a surprise for her big day which will be in my yard!!! I started them in September inside my house to keep them cool and moved them outside in October. So far they are still growing but I feel like they have slowed down. And still no flowers. Just slowly growing taller. How long does it usually take to see the first bloom? I’m afraid I’ve messed up completely on my timing and planted them way to early for an April 9, 2022 wedding! Any advice or thoughts?

We're growing sweet peas for the first time this year and discovered your very lovely site after a google search for information on bud drop.

Just wanted to say how much I enjoyed reading your posts and to thank you for the reassurance that we will get flowers eventually ! – it's been a very rainy and chilly summer here so far with only the odd day of sunshine.

I found your 'About' page particularly interesting and the focus on history and design – are you familiar with Rosemary Verey's work at Barnsley House in England? You might enjoy her book 'Good Planting' if not – I love the way she picks up colour and echoes it in different plants in a bed – your gold and blue border rather reminded me of her.

Have bookmarked your blog so I can catch up regularly!

Victoria

A blush. Really though, it had LOTS of weeds and totally looks much nicer in photos – no kidding.

Oh my gosh! You are literally, "just down the road" from me. We are off of Route 20 near the Price Choppah…….I think may run into you at next weeks canal district market then!

Hi Heidi. My greenhouse is made by the Texas Greenhouse Company, and I think it was called the American Classic.

Funny that you mention this – last night, we were watching a humming bird and then a chickadee doing exactly this!
