In reply to VelvetMarmoset. Oh, great question. It really didn't go all that well. I found the plants slow to establish. I think, I need to divide later in spring and keep clumps larger maybe. More experimentation seems to be needed!

How did this planting end up going? I’d love to see how it filled in. I’m about to plant my four precious little (expensive!) pots of hakonechloa and the more inspirational photos I can find, the better.

Oh, I hope I'm not too early this spring, but we're a month early in the PNW this year (3/15/15). My 7yo helped me propagate some nice clumps, a little smaller than the ones you show, yesterday. Thanks for the tip for the high potassium fert.

Thanks for explaining the division process on Hakonechloa. Are there any concerns that roots will dry out and get damaged during a painstaking and detailed division such as the one you suggest?
