it's thanks to you and your insightful post from 2012 that i was able to visit the sakonnet garden yesterday. i shared the post with my crew, and one of them, a rhode islander, said, i think my father and his lady friend know john and mikel–they are invited anytime!
so that is how we took a mini vacay field trip to the garden and were graciously shown around by mikel. although it is august–long past the may peak moment of the open garden days–it was enthralling and informative to see such a complex garden, the maintenance that is on-going ("i torture plants!" –mikel), the profusion of the new pollinator area, and the sheer variety of the garden's occupants….
so–many thanks, and once again, Growing with Plants is wonderful and exposes us readers to much beyond our ordinary garden lives.

I also read about Sakonnet in the Druse book and saw it first about 10 years ago and again last year. It is one of my all-time favorites. Wonderful design full of surprises , whimsy and humor. Not to mention amazing plants. I hope to get back there someday soon. Greta post.
