I love the look of mass plantings… and in a small town lot like I have it is still worth spending the space and limiting the choices to plant some really key plants.

I do think "planting in large numbers" only really works when you have large spaces. For small home gardens it's not always practical (or affordable). Although planting 3 of the same plant is still better than 1 in many cases.
